Performance Analysis of an Adaptive Rate Scheme for QoE-Assured Mobile VR Video Streaming

The emerging 5G mobile networks are essential enablers for virtual reality (VR) video streaming applications assuring high quality of experience (QoE) at the end-user. In addition, edge computing brings computational resources closer to user equipment (UE), which allows offloading computationally intensive processing. this paper, we consider a network architecture VR consisting server that holds content, virtualization with prefetching (MVP) unit handles packets, and head-mounted display along buffer, together serve as UE. Several modulation coding schemes different rates provided by MVP adaptively cope varying wireless link conditions UE state buffer. buffer caches packets needed compensate adaptive rates. A performance analysis is conducted in terms blocking probability, throughput, queueing delay, average packet error rate. To capture effect fading severity, analytical expressions these metrics derived Nakagami-m on from Numerical results show proposed system meets requirements assure QoE levels applications.
